I think it would make the game so much better and would have recieved higher scores and much more hype. It would have made me like the game a lot more. What If Dragon Age Origins was a Real Ti ...
If you played this game without pausing you'd probably die in about 10 seconds unless you play easy on consoles. What If Dragon Age Origins was a Real Ti ...
I think Dragon Age's combat was excellent. It was a nice change of pace from the real time combat found in most games nowaday.
Play it on the casual setting and it pretty much IS real time...
If you played this game without pausing you'd probably die in about 10 seconds unless you play easy on consoles.
i actually played the 360 version this way as a warrior on normal, it was a **** to play, didn't help that i had no idea how to use my mates properly, and yes i managed to beat the gamegot the game on PC and played as a mage and always paused battle, makes the game so much easier and more fun
What does real time combat in a RPG like Dragon Age mean?Like God of War or Darksiders or something? Where i press A and B in different combos? If thats what you mean i'm not sure, would remove alot of tactical depth but i don't know how else you mean real time, its not a shooter so you can't do it like ME.
If you played this game without pausing you'd probably die in about 10 seconds unless you play easy on consoles.
This. I would micro-manage like it was candy... I don't know if that saying fits, but I did play it very much like an old school game.

I just got the PC version and I like it a lot (about 30 minutes into the game) but feel the game had more potential as a real time RPG
play it on easy on the consoles and it is all real time. I think i had to pause it a few times on normal, and that was during
the prison break sequence, the underground level, and the end game
so im sure easy wouldve been cake :P
If You play as a mage you need to be able to stop the action to choose your next spell. there is just too much that you need to manage. The game would also need to be dumbed way down for it to be a real time rpg
I think it would make the game so much better and would have recieved higher scores and much more hype. The game has to factor in Xbox 360 controller i.e. which doesn't provide enough buttons.
You mean Action RPG.
And the game was built around pause + attack.
Making it an action RPG would have not worked that well.
I just got the PC version and I like it a lot (about 30 minutes into the game) but feel the game had more potential as a real time RPG
I think you are confusing the term ''real time'' with action RPG. Dragon Age has real time combat, meaning it isn't turn based. Your characters and your enemies will continue to make basic attacks unless you tell them to do otherwise. To answer your question: No, Dragon Age would not be better with direct player control. Why? Because there are a billion other action RPGs out there to choose from. The appeal of Dragon Age is that it plays like an old school RPG mechanics.
If DA:O was something at likes of demon souls, i'd be screwed if i had to rely on the A.I to heal me :?
You could play real time if you want, but it would be hell for you. On the higher difficulty settings, the game requires you to be extremely tactical, so planning your attacks during pause is a must.
all i did was set the last tactics slot on each of my allies to drink health potion if health drops below 25% and i just control my main character and i only found myself pauseing the game during the fade levels, my advice to 360 owneres is to pretty much leave the default tactics slots for each character alone, bioware took a lot of time and effort to get those right and they work really well
DA:O is a great game and fine as is
Pair that with only having to manage one character and I would've bought it.

tactics lets your party do the work and you will only have to micro your main man
