Copied from dictionary.coma temporary fashion, notion, manner of conduct, etc., esp. one followed enthusiastically by a group.take notice of the word temporary, the wii came out almost 4 years ago.

It's had a great run in the sales room, there's no doubt.

The TC's premise doesn't work. That being said, I don't believe the Wii is a fad, but the equation used in this thread is flawed. Also, the Wii came out 3 years and a few months ago, not almost 4. We are closer to 3 years than 4 years. My Brother wanted to be 21 so bad so he could drink, the second he was 20 and one month, he tried to convince me to buy him some alcohol No Go, Bro, No go. :P...but that's a side point.:)

Still about two worthwhile games a year, so yes, the theory is still going strong, at least when it comes to real games. The thing seems to be less and less of a game system as time moves on. It looks like this year however we will see a redux of Nintendo's core properties (Zelda, Metroid, Mario.... again) so that will at least hold the fanboys over for another barren two years.

Not a fad.And the fact that it's about to have possibly its best year game-wise is going to further prove that.
'The wii is a fad' statements are a fad. Just like online gaming.
To casuals, yes, it would be considered a 'fad', for most don't even see it as a game console - they see it as a peripheral and nothing more. They could be easily swayed by even shinier object that could be found on the shelf. To actual gamers, obviously not. We can't forget that a console generation is usually 5 years anyway, so if we applied that kind of logic to console gaming as a whole, every console has been a 'fad'.

If online gaming's a fad, the Wii is a super duper uber fad. It's been around since the 90's. The Wii's only been here since 06.
When Wii has the best holiday sales ever this last Christmas, you know it is not a fad. It is here to stay, so much so that MS and Sony and making their own motion controllers.

its the system I've had the least fun with after owning this gen. My family back home loves the thing though.
