the gap is def closing! when the 360 first came out it was a 8 or 9 mill i think, Now its it 5.3 mill, If it wasnt for this US economy who knows it might have completely caught up by now bc in the rest of the world ps3 does really well, oh well...http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/05/ps3-worldwide-sales-cross-30-million/(plz read the parragraph not just the title)sales SONY 33.71 mill MS 39 mill (link)
I always said this gen was competitive and a price drop was Sony's true killer-app. Though with the consoles being near-identical in price now, things are even more interesting.---The most important thing I think is that Sony is closing in on breaking even, and selling more software.P.S. This news is about a day old, so you may not see a lot of people post in here.sales SONY 33.71 mill MS 39 mill (link)
I actually never expected the PS3 to be playing catch up for so long before the PS3 launch. Let's hope Sony has learned $600 for a console will not go down well even if your name is Sony.

lol the wii is in the bargin bin where it belongs
pretty close between the HD twins....the wii's a runaway success but who's willing to bet most of those units like mines are rarely played and only pulled out maybe once a month cause in my house the wii sits downstairs gathering dust because the novelty has worn off with my parents basically..
Anyone else find it funny that they talk about console system sales and mention the lowest selling console...
uif it wasnt for the headstart PS3 has the edge right now. still 5M is a long way to go.
Anyone else find it funny that they talk about console system sales and mention the lowest selling console...
Who Joystiq? I reckon it's because Sony recently reported their earnings etc. So with that bit of news, it would seem appropriate to discuss the situation Sony has been in, is currently in, and will be headed into. Right?---They discussed Microsoft's earnings when they announced the 360 has 39 million consoles around the world. And Nintendo with their ownglorious report. As did SW and the greater gaming community.

Wow! The ps3 is now ahead of the N64, Gamecube and original Xbox lifetime sales in just 3 years
I personally believe the 360 will still outsell the PS3 in the next few years.

That's very possible since MS has more room to play with their price. They have the ball so to speak.

But the majority of sales are of the Elite at a higher price. That's the SKU that consumers target.---MS will likely lead the next price cut phase between the two. As long as they're in the same ballpark, it should remain competitive. Though when the PS3 is at the same or lower price, I think it has the advantage. And as the price lowers in Japan, it's only good news for Sony.---LMAO at XtinctBOX!
